Skinstep ("we," "our," or "the app") is a skincare routine app that uses artificial intelligence to help you build a personalized skincare routine. Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

1. Information We Collect

Information You Provide

Skin profile: Age range, skin type, skin concerns, and skincare goals you enter during onboarding.
Product photos: Photos you take or select of your skincare products. These are used solely to identify product names, brands, and ingredients.
Routine preferences: Morning/evening reminder times and product usage preferences.

Information We Do NOT Collect

We do not collect your name, email address, or any account credentials.
We do not collect facial photos or selfies.
We do not collect location data.
We do not use advertising identifiers or track you across apps.
We do not create user accounts.

2. How We Use Your Information

Product identification: Your product photos are sent to Anthropic's Claude API to identify product names, brands, categories, and key ingredients. Photos are processed in real-time and are not stored on our servers.
Routine generation: Your skin profile and identified products are sent to Anthropic's Claude API to generate a personalized AM/PM skincare routine, including product ordering, usage frequency, and ingredient conflict detection.
Local storage: Your skin profile, product list, routine, and preferences are stored locally on your device using encrypted storage. This data never leaves your device except when sent to the AI service for routine generation.

3. Third-Party Services

Anthropic (Claude API)

We use Anthropic's Claude AI to analyze product photos and generate skincare routines. When you use these features:

Product photos and skin profile data are sent to Anthropic's servers for processing.
Anthropic processes this data according to their Privacy Policy and API Terms of Service.
Anthropic does not use API inputs to train their AI models.
Data sent to Anthropic is not stored permanently and is deleted according to their data retention policy.

4. Data Storage and Security

All personal data (skin profile, products, routines) is stored locally on your device.
Sensitive data is stored using encrypted storage (Expo SecureStore).
We do not operate servers that store your personal data.
API communications use HTTPS encryption in transit.

5. Data Retention

On your device: Your data is retained until you delete the app or clear app data.
API processing: Photos and profile data sent to Anthropic are processed in real-time and not retained beyond the API request lifecycle.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

Access your data: All your data is visible within the app (My Products, Your Ritual, Settings).
Delete your data: You can delete individual products, regenerate your routine, or delete the app entirely to remove all data.
Opt out of AI processing: The app requires AI processing to function. If you do not wish to use AI-powered features, please do not use the app.

7. Children's Privacy

Skinstep is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

8. Health Information Disclaimer

While Skinstep collects skin-related information (skin type, concerns), this information is used solely for generating skincare product routines. Skinstep does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. The app is not a medical device and should not be used as a substitute for professional dermatological care.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by updating the "Effective Date" at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
